Let me begin this blog post by saying that everyone should visit Florida in March. The weather was perfect: sunny and beautiful during the day, and comfortably cool at night. It was clearly off season at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort, but that didn’t stop a large group of hospitality vendors and technology professionals from making the trip to a small island north of Jacksonville to discuss topics ranging from security to messaging standards.

As a long time supporter of HTNG, HFTP was proud to sponsor and attend the conference, and there were several current and past board members in attendance.

It was a week of strategic meetings, vendor presentations, and my favorite part – the TechOvation awards, in which HFTP’s CMO Jennifer Lee, CAE pitchedPineappleSearch.com to the attendees. As Jennifer spoke to the crowd about this incredible tool HFTP has created for the industry, I was thrilled to see so many people in the audience browsing to the site from their laptops, tablets and phones. The winner of the TechOvation competition was Interel, who demonstrated their innovative approach to water management, which has an added benefit of dramatically reducing the cost of plumbing in hotels. And everyone’s favorite robot delivery service from HITEC, Savioke, came in second.

It was very interesting to see how the workgroups meet, and especially how ideas for new workgroups are proposed. HTNG’s goal is clearly to bring vendors and technology professionals together to solve some of the more important challenges we all face together. Congratulations to HTNG for their largest North American conference to date, it was clearly a great success! I certainly enjoyed myself and am excited to see what the future holds.
